Sharing your fundraiser with your social network is often the key to success on Kind Us, because the more you share, the wider the audience will be for your fundraiser. You might not be sure where to start, but luckily, we have some tips to make sharing on social media easy.
Facebook, Instagram, and X (previously Twitter) are the most commonly used platforms for sharing, and they’re a great way to get the word out. Each platform has its own capabilities, such as posting a story or “going live”. You should choose whichever option you feel most comfortable with, but the important thing is to make sure you speak from the heart and explain why you’re raising funds.
How to share on social media
- Post on your Facebook timeline with your fundraiser link and a brief description.
- Create a post on your Instagram and choose a compelling photo to accompany it.
- Add to your Instagram story each week with an update on your fundraiser.
- Post on X (previously Twitter) with the link to your fundraiser and a call to action in your description.
- Add your fundraiser link to the bio section on all social media platforms, which can be done in your social media account’s settings.
For all of the options listed above, be sure to include something along the lines of “Please consider donating to my fundraiser and sharing with your friends and family”.
Sharing your fundraiser on X (previously Twitter)
Short, sweet, and to the point. X (previously Twitter) is another incredibly useful social platform where you can share your fundraiser. Unlike other social media platforms, you only have 280 characters to a tweet, so you want to make sure you’re including the important stuff. For your reference, the underlined portion of the last two sentences makes up 250 of the 280-character limit.
Consider the following for sharing the most impactful tweet:
- Include an image – This will make your tweet more eye-catching than just words.
- Include your link – This will still count towards the character limit, so we suggest using the shortened version under the “Share fundraiser” button.
- Include the main reason for your fundraiser – Think of it like a theme. What’s the most concise way you can describe your reason for raising funds?
- Include a call to action – Direct instructions are best, so be sure to ask them to donate.
Not included in the character count, you can include up to 4 photos, a GIF, or a video in your tweet. You can also add your fundraiser link to your Twitter description by editing your Twitter profile, which will make it easy for followers to find it. You can then add a short, “Link in bio” to the tweet instead of the whole link.
To share your Kind Us fundraiser on X (previously Twitter), you can follow these steps:
- Sign into your X (previously Twitter) account.
- Type your Tweet (up to 280 characters; be sure to include your fundraiser link) into the box at the top of your timeline.
- Click the “Tweet” button to post.
Sharing your fundraiser on Facebook
Facebook is a great place to share your fundraiser because it tends to reach a broad group, it allows for long text descriptions, and you can include a clickable link.
It’s important to include a call to action to donate and share, and the link to your fundraiser. Since you have some additional space on Facebook, you should also include a few details about your fundraiser and why it’s important to you. Facebook allows for multiple images or videos as well.
Another great resource Facebook provides are Facebook Groups. Groups are different groups or communities that come together to share an interest. If you’re already involved in Groups, be sure to post your fundraiser there. If you haven’t joined a Group, it’s a good idea to research some Groups that might have similar interests to what you’re raising funds for. Posting to Groups allows you to reach individuals you might not know personally.
To share your Kind Us fundraiser on Facebook, you can follow these steps:
- Sign into your Facebook account.
- Click the textbox that says, “What’s on your mind?”
- Type your message into the box and be sure to include your fundraiser link; you can add photos/videos using the “Add to your post” buttons.
- Click “Post”
When creating your post, you should make sure to include your fundraiser link along with a brief description of your goal. Make sure that the privacy settings are set the way you’d like them; choosing “Public” or “Friends” will ensure that you have the most visibility.
Sharing your fundraiser on Instagram
Posting on Instagram is a great way to share your fundraiser link along with a photo. We recommend choosing personal images that are eye catching, but not too graphic or shocking to viewers. You can include multiple photos in a post and in a story, so don’t feel pressured to choose just one! We’ve also found that fundraisers with pictures of happy, smiling people tend to be more successful.
Sharing an Instagram post:
For a post, make sure your caption includes a call to action asking people to donate and share. To complement your post, you’ll also want to include your link in your Instagram bio! It’ll be clickable there, so it’s super easy for people to access, and they’ll know it’s important to you since it’s at the very top of your profile. You can then reference that link in any posts you make as well with a quick “Link in bio!” callout.
Follow these steps to make an Instagram post:
- Sign into your Instagram account.
- Click the + icon at the top of the screen.
- Select the photo you’d like to use for your post, then click “Next”.
- Add a filter to your photo, if you’d like; click “Next”.
- Write the message you’d like to use as your caption; make sure to include your fundraiser link.
- Click “Share”
Sharing an Instagram story:
As for stories, they disappear after 24 hours, and are a great way to continue to remind your followers that you have a fundraiser you’d love to share with them. Don’t feel like you’re oversharing – the more views the better! You can mix up stories with different images and calls to action, while also utilizing different features provided by Instagram like stickers, GIFs, etc.
Posting a story is also beneficial because you can include the direct link to your fundraiser by clicking the “sticker” button (on the top of the story creation page, which is after you select your photo) and then choosing “link”. This will make it much easier for people to visit your fundraiser!
Follow these steps to post a story:
- Open your Instagram app.
- Click the + icon at the top of the screen and select Story.
- Select or take a new photo to share with your GoFundMe link.
- Click the sticker tool from the navigation bar at the top of the screen.
- Tap the Link sticker.
- Add your GoFundMe fundraiser link.
- Place the Link sticker on your story content.
- Click the arrow icon in the bottom right corner when you are ready to post.
- Click Share next to the Your Story option.
- Tap Done to share your story.
