Help Mai with Her Puppy Recovery Journey
Hi everyone.
Some of you may not know this, but Willow was diagnosed with kidney disease as a puppy - we have been so fortunate to maintain a really strict diet that allows her to live a perfectly normal and happy life. About a month ago, Willow developed a UTI which caused her kidney levels to spike - we thought that treating with antibiotics would get her back to her "normal", but things quickly worsened. Her levels skyrocketed, she refused to eat, and we began at-home subcutaneous fluid administration.
Our care in VB wasn't working, and Willow developed extreme lethargy - barely wanting to stand up for more than a minute and wouldn't even lift her head when called. Because of this, we made the decision to drive up to Vientiane to admit Willow to Veterinary Hospital. She was admitted to the ER and is staying for a week.
So far, Willow has been on 24-hour fluid therapy and has started some antibiotics / anti-nausea. Her levels remain high and will be rechecked tomorrow, along with an ultrasound to check out how her kidneys are looking and rule out any possible lingering UTI or kidney infections. Should there be no infection present, and levels remain high, we imagine the nephrology specialists will recommend dialysis to clean Willow's blood. This could be a great option for Willow and should bring her levels down significantly. We hope we don't need to go there but will do anything for our girl. She is also still not super interested in eating without anti-nausea medications - should she continue to struggle here; a temporary feeding tube may be necessary to ensure she is getting proper nutrition. Once she's cleared to leave here, and hopefully, doing better, a continuous care plan will be designed with our local vet for long-term care.
Willow is a part of our family, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure we get our spunky girl back to feeling great. While we don't often ask for help, we know how much everyone loves Willow, and wanted to reach out to our tribe to see if some fundraising for her medical bills could be possible. We love you all and appreciate any support for our girl during this rough patch.
Thank you so much...
